Sixth
Annual Pant & Paddle a Success! |
|
September 23th, 2007 at 9:30AM on the beautiful grounds of the
Crow &Gate Pub in Cedar the 1st runners of the 20 participating
teams eagerly began the race. The weather was absolutely
beautiful with the sky blue and autumn sun shining. Temperature
was in the mid to high teens resulting in ideal conditions for
our 6th annual Yellow Point Pant and Paddle.
This year’s winner was a repeat. This year Team Krakatoa
shattered their old record of 3 hours 35 minutes and 52 second
with a new time of 3 hours and 20 minutes. Would another team
rise to the challenge to beat the time of Team Krakatoa? Is
your team up for it? Participants came from as far north as
Courtenay and as far south as Victoria. Discussion in the Beer
Garden after the race was all positive and many teams emailed me
back vowing to return next year in 2008.
Once again a small army of volunteers manned all the checkpoints
and all went well on the course. The course had a small
modification on the mountain bike route from last year and a wee
bit of confusion on the road bike that kept everyone on their
toes. Once again we learned that we still have a few bugs to
iron out.
Special thanks to the many sponsors listed below for their
support. The event could not be successful without the direction
provided by the Leg Organizers, Delbert Horrocks (who brought in
a ringer
Adam DeTurberville),
Ken Bosma, Bob Simpson, Lis Farrell, Bob Grant and Bill
Hutchinson. Thanks to Guy Bezeau for his musical group Desert
Wind in providing some great music.
We also wish to thank the First Nations for allowing us to use
their land for the end of the Kayak Leg and the Mountain Bike
Leg as well as Private Land Owners for the end of the Mountain
Bike Leg. Water was once again provided by Columbia Water
Company. Communications by C.O.P.S. - Vioxx radio. St John’s
Ambulance once again provided first aid. A special thank you
goes to Frontrunners Nanaimo for their valuable contribution of
draw prizes.
